6am: Cycle

16 Apr

Monday 16th April 2012

Today I did 6am Cycle class with instructor Amanda.

A number of things weren’t going my way this morning:

1) Seat too far fwd
2) Foot straps not tight enough
3) Legs heavy, no power, no speed
4) Amanda swapped out the Skrillex interval track (which I know most people hate, but I was kind of looking forward to it!)
5) Short class 48″ vs. 54″ RPM.

I burnt 430 Cals.

The class was about 1/3 full.

Amanda’s class is probably my least favorite Cycle class. She’s not intense like Jenny and doesn’t explain everything as nicely as Wendy. I feel like I get more out of the RPM classes.

But I’ll take it, cos my only other option is Body Balance!

Week in review: tired

13 Apr

So this week, I did a 21km walk, 2 x RPM classes and 3 x PT sessions.

I did doubles on wed and fri.

I think I did a decent amount of work this week, I’m happy about the strength gains I can see.

But I’m disappointed in myself for missing gym on Thursday. No one to blame but myself.

Eating was a bit off the rails this week due to Easter.

This week I’m not so much smashed as tired. Both sleep tired and muscle are tired.

6am: RPM + 5.15pm: PT cardio (on the beach)

Friday 13th April 2012

Friday doubles! Yeah!

6am: RPM with Wendy this morning. Class was half empty! Must be harder to get up on Fridays!

Wendy is totes different to Jenny. Jenny’s class is intense, where I think I’m going to die. Whereas Wendy is like all calm and explains everything very nicely. The funny thing about the two different styles is that I burn exactly the same amount of calories! 529 Cals in a 54″ class.

I love RPM so bad! (except I would have liked the room to be darker this morning.)

5.15pm: PT cardio session. Got a text from the PT about 2pm asking if I wanted to do our session at Port Melbourne beach cos it was a nice day outside. I said sure… totally forgetting that the beach = sand. Doh!

We did:
boxing drills + burpees
boxing drills + shuttle runs in the sand
boxing drills + running
boxing drills + star jumps
More shuttle runs in the sand.

It was fugging hard! Running in sand is just plain cruel. As if I needed the extra degree of difficulty! My quads were buuuuurning!

Zzz… argh! I missed 6am Pump!

Thursday 12th April 2012

Fugg. I slept in and missed Pump this morning. My unbroken streak is over :(

No matter. Any good cowboy just gets back on their horse. And I will try again tomorrow.

Aim for doubles tomorrow; 6am RPM, backed up with a PT cardio session at 5.15pm.

I don’t know what from, but I have got a majorly sore left trap today.

6am: RPM (54) + 5.15pm: PT weights (legs)

Wednesday 11th April 2012

Love Wednesday doubles, but I am smashed.

6am I did RPM. I got there a bit early to nab a bike. RPM with instructor Jenny, has got to be one of the most popular classes at the gym. People miss out on bikes cos her class is so full. Jenny is from NZ and she is a machine. When her legs move, they look like a blur.

At one point in today’s class, on the third round of ‘climbs’, she was like, turn it up a gear! And I said ‘Nooo!!!’ (she couldn’t hear me). My quads were already burning, I didn’t have another gear in me!

Love RPM. Sometimes I crave it. It burns so many Cals. Today I burnt 528. It’s an intense workout. It’s a good feeling to walk out of the gym a sweaty mess.

5.15pm I did PT weights (legs) session.

We did:
Machine deadlift 3 x 10
Leg press 3 x 10
Calf raises 3 x 10
Dumbell step ups 3 x 10 super setted with 20 box jumps (which nearly killed me)
Leg raises with fitball 3 x 10 super setted with burpees (which also nearly killed me)
Wall squat

It was a tough workout! Especially those box jumps. I thought I was going to die. When he said 20, in my mind I thought I could only get to 10. But somehow I got there. My lungs were burning when I stopped. I was practically hyperventilating to get the air back in.

The wall squat was pretty funny, I held it for about 35 seconds and then slid down the wall when I couldn’t hold it any longer :P

I’m really happy with my progress in the weights sessions. I can see the amount that I can lift increases each week. I’m getting stronger. Yeah!

6.30am: PT weights (arms)

10 Apr

Tuesday 10th April 2012.

6.30am: PT weights (arms + abs)

Got to the gym early, did a warm up on the stair climber. Jeebus, it gets your heart rate up quick. And warmed me up quick too – on the coldest morning in Melbourne in 6 months!

We did:

Chest Press on the fit ball. 1 x 10 (5kg) > 1 x 10 (7kg) > 1 x 10 (8kg).

Lat Pull down. 1 x 10 (easy). 1 x 10 (41lbs +2kg – too heavy). 1 x 10 (41lbs).

Shoulder Press on fit ball. 3 sets of 10, can’t remember the weights.

Leg raise. 1 x 10 (2kg) > 1 x 10 (3kg).

Plank: 2:04

Burpees: 2 sets of 10

21 cold, wet and windy km’s.

9 Apr

Monday 9th April 2012

Jay, Michelle and I met up at the Tan at 9am this morning.

We were going to do 30km, but we cut it short as the weather was turning nasty.

The weather was quite annoying, needed to wear a rain jacket, then it got hot, had to take it off, then the wind picked up, then it got cold, had to put it back on again – and so on and so on! I’m praying to the weather gods, that it’s not cold and raining on the day!

We went around the tan a few times, across to fawkner park, around the MCG and back down to the Tan for 21kms.

At least we walked a half mara. Second last training walk, I reckon.
